The British Council in
Baghdad has announced that it has now started to
accept applications for the Chevening Scholarships
2007.
The Iraqi Government started issuing the new
machine-readable G-series passport on 11 April 2006
(G-series passports have serial numbers beginning
with the letter "G" e.g. G123456).
The G-series passport is significantly more secure
than the older S-series passport (serial numbers
beginning with the letter "S") and is accepted as
evidence of identity and nationality for the purpose
of travel to the United Kingdom.
In view of this, the UK is phasing out the
acceptability of the S-series passport as follows:
From 1 September 2006: |

Iraqi Passport |
No further visas will be issued to holders of
S-series passports
From 1 November 2006:
S-series passports will no longer be accepted for
travel to the UK
Valid visas already issued to S-series passport
holders (prior to 1 September 2006) must be
accompanied by a G-series passport
Iraqi nationals holding S-series passports and
planning to travel or return to the UK on or after 1
November 2006 must obtain a new G-series passport.
Anyone seeking to enter the UK on or after 1
November 2006 and holding an S-series passport will
be denied entry.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office will continue
to accept the following Iraqi passports:
N-series passports for their statuary duration
H-series passports issued before 19 March 2003
H-series passports issued after 19 March 2003 and
from 28th June 2004 but only with a MFA stamp
All regular Iraqi passports (M,N and H series) that
were revalidated with the CPA/Ministry of the
Interior stamp or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
stamp after 16 April 2003.
Also The British Council in Baghdad has announced
