Talabani ready to be a witness in Anfal trial
(Al-Adala)
President Jalal Talabani said he would appear as a
witness in the Anfal trial if he was asked to do so.
This trial of Saddam will enhance Iraqi unity and
improve relations between Arabs and Kurds. He said
that the reconciliation plan was moving ahead and
that many political players supported it, including
what he described as the "resistance". The president
said negotiations were underway between
parliamentary deputies to spread security and
stability.

Former power minister accused of corruption
(Al-Mashriq)
The spokesman for the Integrity Board, Ali al-Shaboot,
has said that the former power minister, Ayham al-Samarrai,
has been arrested on charges of corruption. Samarrai,
who served in the cabinet of Ayad Allawi, was
detained on Tuesday. Shaboot added that the
Integrity Board is considering the arrest of another
former power minister on similar charges.

Big British troop cut planned
(Al-Mada)
A high-ranking British officer, who asked not to be
named, said Tuesday that Britain might halve its
troop numbers in Iraq by the start of 2007.
