New oil fields discovered in Kurdistan

Kurdistan Region has announced the discovery of
several new oil fields, an Iraqi newspaper reported.
The General Establishment for Oil Projects in the
Kurdistan Region has announced the discovery of
several new oil fields, an Iraqi newspaper reported.
These fields will help in solving the fuel crisis in
the region and will have a significant impact on the
Kurdish economy,? the establishment noted in a
statement.
A total of 66 oil fields have been found across the
Kurdistan Region.
The statement also revealed that the Bazian Oil
Refinery will be fully operational by early 2007,
and that oil pipelines are currently under
construction between Kirkuk and Bazian. The
Shiwashok Oil Refinery in Koya is scheduled to begin
functioning in two years time, as is Duhok's Oil
Refinery.
Kurdistan constitution nearing completion

- The Chairman of the Kurdistan Assembly? Legal
Committee, Sherwan Haideri, has declared the near
completion of the Kurdistan Region's constitution, a
local media reported.
With regards to the regional constitution, we have
conducted 22 meetings in the Kurdistan Assembly and
a further two meetings will be held for the drafting
of the constitution,? Haideri stated. Following the
meetings, the draft constitution will be presented
to the regional president and government for
suggestions.
Haideri further revealed that the Legal Committee
had discussed the establishment of eight ministries,
including those of foreign affairs, industry, trade,
martyrs and Anfal, transport, electricity and
planning.
Aid to displaced families

The International Red Crescent Society in Iraq has
distributed aid to 55 families fleeing central and
southern Iraq for the Kurdistan Region.
Omer Aziz Ali, from Erbil Red Crescent, stated that
the organization had been helping families escaping
violence in the rest of Iraq for over a month,
providing them with food, water, blankets, small
ovens and cool boxes.
Ali pleaded with the Governor of Erbil to provide
land for a refugee
Camp and stated that the Red Crescent would provide
tents for the families.
?We have supported 2,414 families in Makhmour camp
and continue to support refugees,? insisted Ali.
Erbil's Governor has pledged his support for the
efforts of the Red Crescent Society.
