Private person builds a bridge as gratitude
A man from Soran region has built a bridge entirely
on his own expense. The bridge that has cost him
$4000 was built on Lolany River in Dashte Herte
region.
More than 20 villagers in the region will be using
the bridge on a daily basis.
"I was a peshmerga fighter in the 1980s in this
region. At that time me and people here had
enormous problems to take ourselves and our goods
across the river, although the people of this
region were very much supportive.
That is why I decided to build the bridge as my
thankfulness and remembering those days," said
Ibrahim Hamkoya, who built a bridge that is 3 meters
high, 28 meters long and two meters wide.
Transport facilitations into neighboring Iran
As of August this year Iraqi Kurds can travel to
Iranian cities using their own cars, local media
reported.
Travelers can even use their cars for transportation
of cargo or goods that they would like to take with
them in or out of the country.
This comes after an agreement between Iranian
authorities and Kurdistan Regional Government.
Iran has a lengthy border with the neighboring Iraq
with two border crossings namely the Penjwen and
the Haj Omran gates. These two gateways are vital
to the economy of the border localities.
Accommodations built for teachers
A number of three-story complexes are currently
being constructed to house teachers in Soran
Technical Institute.
The project is estimated to cost around 881
million dinars and is planned to accommodate
teachers who serve in Soran district but originally
come from distant cities. Each of the flats contain
bedrooms, living room and kitchen, in addition to
all basic facilities.
