Kirkuk,
Kurdistan-Iraq, August 11, -- Kurdistan
Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister Omer
Fattah has paid a visit to Kirkuk, in which he was
received by Kirkuk’s Governor, Mustafa Abdul-Rahman
and Chairman of Kirkuk Council, Rizgar Ali.
Fattah pledged the support of the Kurdistan Regional
Government to all the people of Kirkuk, stating:
“Kirkuk has been historically oppressed, and the
worst of this oppression was when the Bathist regime
tried to create conflict between the communities of
Kirkuk, attacking their brotherhood”, and insisted:
“We have to work to make Kirkuk an example of
peaceful coexistence – a city of peace.”
Mustafa Abdul-Rahman praised the work of the KRG in
assisting the people of Kirkuk, stating:
“We are very proud when we see the Kurdistan
Regional Government is supporting us. Kirkuk is
facing many problems. However, most of these
problems can be alleviated by the Normalization of
Kirkuk through the implementation of Article 140 of
the Iraqi Constitution.”
Fattah was also presented with a list of requests
from Kirkuk’s Council, which complained of fuel
shortages, the destruction of infrastructure and a
lack of security. The Deputy PM assured the council
that the reconstruction of Kirkuk was KRG policy.
