BAGHDAD, August 23, -- Saddam Hussein's trial
for genocide against the Kurds was adjourned on
Wednesday for three weeks until Sept. 11, the court
said.
The former Iraqi leader and six co-defendants are
accused of slaughtering tens of thousands of Kurds
in Kurdistan (northern Iraq) during a seven-month
campaign in 1988.
A verdict in the Dujail trial is expected in October
and Saddam faces the death penalty.
