Erbil, Kurdistan-Iraq, Aug 8 , -- An
improvised roadside bomb exploded and destroyed a
border patrol vehicle close to the Kurdistani
(Iraq)-Iranian border amid reports of an Islamic
group's infiltration across the northern border
lines, a police source said on Tuesday.
The source in the northern city of Sulaimaiyah said
the bomb exploded when an Iraqi force patrol vehicle
was passing in Halawat border crossing hill of
Benjien, adding that it was the third incident of
this kind in the past few weeks.
A source of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan quoted
eyewitnesses from villages close to the
Iraqi-Iranian border as saying that armed gunmen
from the Ansar Al-Islam organization, labeled by the
US as a terrorist group, were stationed in those
areas, and that they were spotted moving in the
frontier region. |
