USA, August 4, --
A public relations campaign in the United States to
thank the people of America is showcasing the
Kurdistan Region of Iraq as a stable and friendly
place that welcomes Americans and people from the
West.
The campaign, which is funded by the Kurdistan
Regional Government (KRG), includes television
commercials thanking the people of America for
liberating the people of Kurdistan and Iraq from
Saddam Hussein’s regime.
Ms Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, chairman of Kurdistan
Development Corporation, who spearheaded the
campaign, said “We want to tell Americans that we
are proud to have been their allies in the fight
against Saddam's regime and proud to be part of the
global coalition fighting terrorism today.”
In Washington, Ms Rahman met high-ranking American
representatives including Congresswoman Kay Granger
of Texas, who serves as co-chair of the Iraqi
Women’s Caucus, Jeanne Kirkpatrick, former US
Ambassador to the UN, and Edwin Meese, former US
Attorney General.
In San Francisco, Ms Rahman met a delegation of
Goldstar families - American families of soldiers
who lost their lives in the war in Iraq - although
not a single coalition soldier has been killed or
injured in the Kurdistan Region.
In Portland, Oregon Ms Rahman met representatives of
various business sectors, including the timber
industry. Senator Jason Atkinson presented Ms Rahman
with Oregon State Legislature’s 2005 resolution
establishing a sister-state relationship with the
Kurdistan Region to promote cultural, economic and
political links.
Foreign investors are already operating or showing
an interest in the Kurdistan Region.
To attract more investors, the Kurdistan
Regional Government has just introduced a new
investment law that allows for full ownership and
repatriation of profits.
The Kurdistan Regional Government studied the
investment laws of developed countries in drafting
one of the most investor-friendly laws in the Middle
East.
