BAGHDAD, August
26 (KUNA) -- Leaders of Arab Sunni tribes in Iraq
called on Saturday for postponing the federalism
scheme for a period of five years.
In a speech he delivered at the first conference of
the National Authority for National Reconciliation
and Dialogue, representative of these tribes Sheikh
Majid Al-Sulaiman said, "We came to extend our arms
in reconciliation and tolerance ... We need to
rebuild bridges of trust and call for economic
reform, providing services, and enforcing law." He
also called for preserving the unity of Iraq and to
postpone the discussion of federalism for five years
to maintain the privacy of the Kurdish province.
Moreover, Al-Sulaiman called for renouncing
terrorism and all those who kill innocents, adding
that the de-Baathification law should be suspended
and criminals held accountable for their acts, while
combating tribalism and dissolving militias.
These remarks were supported by representative of
the Diyala tribes Nizar Al-Khaizarani.
Iraqi politicians had recently called for forming
central and southern provinces, and leader of the
majority parliamentary bloc Abdul-Aziz Al-Hakim had
told KUNA that measures for establishing a federal
state would be proposed within the upcoming days for
approval.
