BAGHDAD, August
16 ,-- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani reiterated
support to the national conciliation initiative of
Prime Minister Nouri Maliki, noting that his
country's fate would be dependant on the
government's achievement of its foremost mission of
national reconiliation.
Addressing a news conference at the presence of a US
delegation led by Secretary of War Veterans James
Nicholson, Talabani said he was in support of the
national conciliation initiative, which was approved
by all political forces in the Iraqi parliament and
members of the political council of the Iraqi
national security.
On an invitation addressed to the Iraqi conciliation
and dialogue committee to hold its meeting in the
northern Iraqi region of Kurdistan, Talabani said
the invitation was extended by the Kurdistan
President Massoud Barazani to reach a solution for
all differences and impose security and stability in
the country.
Talbani also welcomed the US delegation and
expressed gratitude for the support rendered by the
American people and government for Iraq.
The US delegation was briefed on the situation in
Iraq, Talabani said, noting that hopes are attached
on the US support for the Iraqi government of
national unity.
On his part, Nicholson said he was pleased for
meeting Talabani and members of the Iraqi
government, noting that talks have touched on the
affairs of war veterans of both countries.
He voiced support to the Iraqi government for the
efforts it put in fighting terrorism and to maintain
stability in the country. |
