Turkish Secret Agent shot dead by Agency

ANKARA (AP) ,
--The head of a local branch of Turkey's
intelligence agency died Sunday after being shot six
times by an agency employee, an official said.
The agent, identified as Ismet Onal, 41, died of his
wounds in a hospital in the predominantly Kurdish
city of Batman,
Southeastern Turkey, Gov. Haluk Imga said. He was
shot inside the local branch of the National
Intelligence Organization, or MIT.
Imga said the reason for the attack was under
investigation. Autonomy-seeking Kurdish rebels are
active in the region and have attacked Turkish
officials in the past, but Sunday's shooting did not
appear to be politically motivated.
The attacker, who has been arrested, was suffering
from depression, he said. The Anatolia news agency
said the man appeared to be "crazed" when he fired
shots at Onal.
