Contract to Buy 16 Helicopters Signed

On July 17 Kurdistan Regional Government deputy
prime minister Omar Fatah, along with the ministers
of agriculture and interior, signed a deal with the
Saudi Azib Intergraph company to buy 16 US-made
helicopters for more than 35.45 million dollars.
The money is a grant from the Saudi government and
will be used by ministries of agriculture and
interior.

Talabani Receives Iran Invitation

Iraqi president Jalal Talabani received an
invitation from Iranian president Mahmood
Ahmadinejad to meet with the Iranian leader in
Tehran. The Iranian ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Kazmi
Qumi, submitted the invitation during a meeting with
the president.
Talabani insisted that Iran should participate in
helping the Iraqi government's efforts to bring
stability to the country as well as to the Iraqi
economy. The Iranian ambassador insisted on
strengthening his country's relationship with Iraq,
saying that stability in the country will reflect
positively on the entire region. (Talabani is
expected to visit the Iranian leader on July 18.

Parliament Speaker Holds UIA and Iraqi Accord
Front Accountable

Iraqi parliament speaker, Mahmood al-Mashhadani,
criticized the United Iraqi Alliance and the Iraqi
Accord Front for increasing sectarian tensions in
the country.
Before ending the session of parliament, Mashhadani
called on the Shia United Iraqi Alliance and the
Sunni Iraqi Accord Front to combat the sectarianism.
"It's up to the Alliance and the Accord Front to sit
down and talk to and solve sectarian tensions
between Sunni and Shia," Mashhadani said.
He also accused the Kurdistan Alliance of acting as
spectators of what is happening in the country.
Mashhadani said, "We are all in the same boat. If it
is sinks, we'll all sink."

Head of Electoral Commission Accused of
Embezzlement

Judiciary sources declared on July 17 that the
investigation judge of the integrity committee has
issued an arrest warrant for Adil al-Lami, executive
director of Iraq's electoral commission.
The source said that Lami and a number of electoral
commission employees were involved in a contract
with (Ramn) company, which the source said was fake.
He said they will be charged with embezzlement.
