Kurdish Mohamed Emin
Saed Khalid has lived seven years as an asylum
seeker in Norway. Now he is returning to Kurdistan
(Northern Iraq) to become a government minister.
The newspaper VG tells of Mohammed Emin, who fought
for 12 years as a guerilla soldier against dictator
Saddam Hussain. Then he became politically active in
his region.
In 1999 he and his family fled from the war torn
country to Norway.
Now the asylum seeker has been "headhunted" to
become a minister in the new democracy of the
Kurdish self-governing area of Kurdistan (Northern
Iraq), the newspaper writes.
The Kurdish region of Northern Iraq (Kurdistan) has
its own government and parliament, but is at the
same time part of the federation of Iraq.
- I want to thank Norway for all we were given when
we had nothing: Warmth, security and empathy. This I
will never forget, Mohamed Emin says.
