Mirror, July 12, --
An Iraqi Kurd, blinded in his homeland, was
yesterday charged with dangerous driving after
allegedly being caught behind the wheel of a car.
Omed Aziz, 31, took control while his friend, Dlear
Ahmed, directed him from the front passenger seat,
it is claimed. The pair are said to have been pulled
over by police after a patrol spotted the car
wandering across the road. The court heard that Aziz
was travelling at speeds of between 25-35mph.
Lawyers acting for the Iraqi Kurd, who wore
sunglasses, told magistrates in Warley, West Mids,
they will argue Aziz was in control of the car
because his friend was navigating the route for him,
he was not travelling at excessive speed and did not
crash into anything.
Aziz pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving.
At an earlier hearing he admitted driving without
insurance and with no MOT. The trial will be in
September.
