New oil fields discovered in Kurdistan
The General Establishment for Oil Projects in the
Kurdistan Region has announced the discovery of
several new oil fields, an Iraqi newspaper reported.
“These fields will help in solving the fuel crisis
in the region and will have a significant impact on
the Kurdish economy,” the establishment noted in a
statement.
A total of 66 oil fields have been found across the
Kurdistan Region.
The statement also revealed that the Bazian Oil
Refinery will be fully operational by early 2007,
and that oil pipelines are currently under
construction between Kirkuk and Bazian. The
Shiwashok Oil Refinery in Koya is scheduled to begin
functioning in two years time, as is Duhok’s Oil
Refinery.
Holland Consulate opens in Erbil
The Ambassador of Holland announced that the
Consulate of his country will be opened in Hewler
in near future.
In a meeting with the Minster of Agriculture, the
Holland Ambassador discussed this matter in the
presence of Director of Iraq-Holland Company.
Moreover they discussed about the project of
building a giant dairy company in Kurdistan Region
support by the Holland Government which will be
executed by Holland companies.
The Minister of Agriculture talked about the need of
changes in agriculture fields in order to
correspond with global development, he also called
upon the capital companies to invest in Kurdistan
as the Kurdistan Law Investment support them.
Dohuk, Tikrit Universities sign an agreement
The University of Dohuk sings an agreement with
University of Tikrit aiming to progress the
education field and exchanging scientific affairs,
Peyamner news agency reported.
Dr. Osmat Majeed, President of Dohuk University
signed an agreement with Mahir Salih Jibori,
President of Tikrit University. According to this
agreement; the two universities provide seats for
students of Dohuk and Tikrit to study higher
education and exchanging lecturers and
accommodations.
In this regard, Dr. Mahir Salih, President of Tikrit
University said “this agreement will develop the
science field in both universities as well as we
will be aware of education system in Kurdistan”.
Also this agreement includes that “students of both
universities would visit each other and
participate in conferences and congresses and Master
and Doctorates theists.
17 Kurdish teachers awarded computer certificate
in Austria
Dilshad Abdurrahman, Minister of Education of
Kurdistan Regional Government met teachers who
passed the test set by BITMEDIA Company in Austria,
local media reported.
In the meeting, the Minister congratulated 17
teachers awarded computer certificates for their
great achievement and hoped that they can be able to
deliver their computer services to the students.
The teachers were from the Provinces of Erbil and
Dohuk who arrived in Austria via Jordan to conduct
a test in Graz city to obtain ECDL certificate from
BITMEDIA Company in Austria.
Also it is expected that teachers from Sulaimaniyah
Province and its suburbs would be chosen to sit
for the same test in Austria after completion a 7
weeks computer session.
Nevertheless, three Computer Institutes in Kurdistan
Region in Erbil, Sulaimaniyah and Dohuk Provinces
for the first time will be to open in 2006-2007.
Ministry of Higher Education aims for global
excellence in Kurdish universities
Idris Hadi Salih, KRG Minister of Higher Education
and Scientific Research, met with the chancellors of
Kurdistan’s universities and institutions, a local
Kurdish newspaper reported.
Minister Salih expressed his commitment to achieving
world standards in higher education in the Kurdistan
Region. Plans to open computer, English language and
scientific research centres in all universities were
discussed.
Further talks were held regarding student and
administrative affairs, including on the provision
of transport for students and reform of the
university application process.
New power line to Jadidazab village
The town of Khabat’s electricity directorate is
currently implementing a 565 million Iraqi Dinar
project to construct a power line to Jadidazab
village, local media reported.
The power line will cover 22 km, directing
electricity generated at Khabat’s power station to
Jadida.
Zakho: graduation of 70 boarder forces officers
from the military academy
A graduation ceremony has been organized for the
graduation of boarder forces officers in special
training session lasted for 2 months, where many
military, humanitarian and technical subjects were
delivered theoretically and practically.
70 boarder force officers graduated in this
training session, the ceremony attended by Ali
Awni the official in charge of branch 8 of KDP and
the commander of boarder forces as well as the
representative of Kurdistan Army in Dohuk.
In this ceremony, a range of speeches were addressed
indicating to the construction of the army on
scientific bases.
