25,000 houses to be built in Sulaimaniyah
In a joint press conference, Barez Company and the
British Anglo Company announced the construction of
25,000 settling units in Suleimaniya. This is part
of the effort to overcome the housing shortage in
the Kurdistan Region. Construction will take five
years and the project will cost over $1 billion.
Zaytun Hospital treats over 40,000 patients
The medical team of the Zaytun Division has provided
treatment to over 40,000 patients in Erbil in the
hospital established by the South Korean army in
November 2004. In an event celebrating the work of
the hospital, Manager of Zaytun Hospital, Lee He
Sol, distributed gifts among the patients and
hospital staff.
President of Kurdistan Region meets with KDP and
PUK
KRG President Massoud Barzani met with KDP and PUK
officials in Qalachwalan on Tuesday. The President
addressed the party members, saying “You, in the
past, before belonging to any of the Kurdish
parties, have sacrificed for Kurdistan”.
Barzani noted the periods of conflict between the
two main Kurdish parties, but insisted that “when we
were in peace together, we gained a lot for our
people and established the Kurdistan Assembly, for
instance”.
The President stressed that in the unification
process, the political parties should avoid
competing with other for supremacy, and instead work
together to defeat their common enemies.
The Parliament Lawful Committee meets the
Minister of Trade
During the ongoing meetings of the Parliament Legal
Committee and the newly formed ministries of the
Kurdistan Regional Government; the committee
received Muhamed Raoof, the Minister of Trade,
reported Peyamner News Agency Sunday.
In the meeting they discussed the legal projects of
the ministry, and placing suitable rules concerning
it, since the establishment of the K.R.G in 1992;
this is the first time in which a ministry of trade
has been established in Kurdistan’s fifth cabinet.
Education Ministry plans to amend the system of
education
Recently the final high school exam results were
released in Kurdistan, according to the results the
percentage pass rates in literature was 18.79% and
in sciences it was only 16.86%, reported P.U.K
media.
This has caused a lot of concern and surprise within
the education centers in the Kurdistan Region,
regarding the cause of that high failure rate, the
Minister of Education, Dulshad Abdul-Rahman, stated,
"It is estimated that in the near future a press
conference will be held to give explanations for
that…. One of the reasons of this high failure rate
is the outdated current education system…. Also,
experts in the field of education are thinking that
another reason for this bad failure rate this year
was the 2006 World Cup," of his opinions on the
causes of this disappointment.
