Norway, July 20, -- Some 400 refugees from
Kurdistan (northern Iraq) are being deported from
Norway after their applications for asylum were
rejected.
Controversial Iraqi imam Mullah Krekar, however,
will remain in Norway until Iraq guarantees he won't
be executed upon return, Aftenposten reported.
The Norwegian government has ordered Krekar deported
because the former guerrilla leader in Kurdistan
(northern Iraq) allegedly represents a threat to
national security.
Norwegian authorities, however, won't deport anyone
who faces a death penalty in his homeland, the
newspaper said. |

The newspaper Stavanger Aftenbladet said it has
information showing that several U.S. CIA agents
were sent to Norway in the summer of 2003 with a
secret plan was to kidnap Krekar.
Krekar's Norwegian attorney Brynjar Meling told the
newspaper Saturday that Krekar feared a kidnapping,
and that he'd be sent to the United States, the
newspaper said.
