Zakho,
Kurdistan-Iraq, July 27 – Some 200 Turkish soldiers
accompanied by village rangers crossed the borders
into Iraqi Kurdistan province and encroached for two
kilometers before pulling back inside the Turkish
side of the borders, a military source in Zakho said
on Thursday.
The intruding force penetrated the area of Hork near
Kesta border village in Dahuk, Fahmi Sofi, deputy
commander of the first division of the Iraqi
Kurdistan Democratic Party, told the independent
news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) over the phone.
"At 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday we were informed that
about 200 Turkish soldiers and some village rangers
encroached for two kilometers inside the borders.
Several hours later, they withdrew to the Turkish
borders,” he said without giving reason for the
incursion.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the Turkish artillery
shelled last night the areas of Kely, Senat, Zaweta,
Kely Besagha, Kloc and Alansh in Zakho.
The shelling did cause casualties but it started
fires in the woods.
