Massoud Barzani, President of the semi-autonomous
Kurdistan region in northern Iraq, said they would
consider a possible intervention by Turkey in
Kurdistan (northern Iraq) as “an attack on their
soil.”
Barzani said that they would not allow any terror
organization to take shelter on Kurdistani (Northern
Iraqi) soil, without explicitly mentioning the
outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Yet, he
also added, in an apparent reference to Turkey, “But
if any country attacks Kurdistan, we will defend
ourselves.”
He also clarified that any Turkish intervention in
Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) would be interpreted by
them as an attack.
His remarks came as an apparent response to the
Turkish capital, which has recently stepped up
warnings it could militarily intervene in Kurdistan
(northern Iraq). |

Barzani, who has been carrying on meetings in
Sulaymaniyah and surrounding cities, said yesterday
"We have said many times that we absolutely do not
want any area of Kurdistan used as a spot for
attacking any of our neighbors. However, if any
country around us attacks Kurdistan, we will defend
ourselves."
