Barzani: Kurds are entitled to a state but in due time 22.7.2006

Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan-Iraq, -- Within the framework of his visit to Sulaimaniyah city, the president of Kurdistan region, Masoud Barzani, met with the administrative units and offices of Sulaimaniyah city in Qala Chwalan, reported P.U.K Media, Tuesday, July 18.

The deputy secretary general of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Nawshirwan Mustafa, Kosrat Rasoul and Imad Ahmed, all members of the P.U.K political bureau, also attended the meeting.

After observing a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs of Kurdistan, Barzani thanked the political bureau of the P.U.K for the warm welcome he received, later in a statement to the attendees he spoke of the previous achievements of the Kurdistan Regional Government, saying, " All the achievements of the K.R.G are the outcome of the sacrifices made by the people of Kurdistan through the struggle and efforts of Kurdistan Democratic Party and the P.U.K," which was also warmly received.

President Barzani added, "Civilians have the right to criticize the establishments and institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government for the current shortcomings but they should also remember that these establishments are there to serve them and it takes time to completely overcome existing problems," of the criticism the K.R.G faces, he also called upon the Kurdish public to protect the existing achievements of the K.R.G within Kurdistan region.

The bitter experience of the former civil war between the P.U.K and K.D.P was also breached by President Barzani who said that maintaining tolerance, a healthy dialogue and understanding amongst all parties in the Kurdistan region were key factors in helping prevent any reoccurrence of such experiences, suggesting that the P.U.K and K.D.P should turn into two civil parties and melt within one government.

Regarding the unification of the two Kurdish administrations, president Barzani said that the ministries of the two administrations that have so far not been unified will be done so and there should also be a unified and regular military force for the Kurdistan region so that no party can use force against the other.

President Barzani continued, saying the Kurdish people were entitled to have a state of their own, but in due time providing the current K.R.G are able to gain the support of outside and neighboring countries first, "We have a rich country and the duty of the government is to bring about prosperity for each and every Kurdish family." Barzani stated.

Reference to the current security situation in the other parts of Iraq concluded the President’s statement at the meeting, saying, " Iraq is taking steps towards sectarian war and we as the Kurdish people should have an active role in resolving the problems…. a inclusive Iraqi government can resolve all issues and can prevent the re-formation of a dictatorial state," of his vision of things to come.
