Talabani Sees Islamic Party Chief
(Al-Ittihad)
President Jalal Talabani had a meeting with the
leader of the general council of the Iraqi Islamic
party, Muhsin Abdul Hameed, at which he praised the
party’s participation in the political process as an
important step towards building national unity.
Abdul Hameed expressed great confidence that
Talabani's political background would play a major
role in building a new Iraq and freeing the country
from crisis. During the meeting, they agreed it was
necessary to strengthen relations between the
Islamic party and the Kurdish people.

Baghdad Security Measures a Step in the Right
Direction
(Al-Adala)
The state minister for national security, Shirwan
al-Waili, has said the new security plans for
Baghdad are a step in the right direction, adding
that the scheme held out promise that the government
could regain control of security in the rest of the
country. He said the measures should extend to as
many neighbourhoods as possible.
Entrances and exits to the capital linking it to
nearby provinces regarded as a source of insurgent
attacks will be cordoned off and controls
established. Future security plans will not be
revealed, so that enemy forces are taken by surprise
and prevented from taking steps in response, the
minister said.

Interior Minister Talks to Baghdad District
Officials
(Al-Sabah al-Jadeed)
Interior Minister Jawad al-Boolani has met notables
and clerics of Baghdad’s Adhamiya neighbourhood. He
praised their patriotic spirit in helping the
interior ministry impose security and stability in
Iraq generally and in Adhamiya in particular.
He was briefed in detail about the security
situation in Adhamiya and the reasons why certain
violations had happened, and was told that clashes
between locals and security forces were a reaction
to the latter’s behaviour.
The Adhamiya representatives praised the new
security plan that targets terrorists and those
forces seeking to ignite sectarian war. The minister
called on all Iraqis to help rebuild Iraq and
increase stability.

Fuel Prices to Stay Fixed
(Al-Sabah)
The oil ministry has said that prices of certain
fuel products are not to rise, contrary to reports
in the media. These erroneous reports created
abnormally long queues at petrol stations and
appeared to herald a new crisis.

daily independent publicly owned newspaper.)
