Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan-Iraq, -- Faruq Mullah
Mustafa, the owner of the Asia Cell mobile company
told the Kurdistan online website on June 3 that his
company is now ready to cover mobile network
coverage to the provinces of Erbil and Duhok within
one day, if his company was given permission to do
so.
This announcement comes after it was said that the
contract of Korek Telecom with the KRG (former Erbil
administration) was going end August 8, after which
date Asia Cell may be allowed to cover Erbil and
Duhok.
Mustafa explained they have heard of calls by the
unified KRG’s Minister of Communication asking Asia
Cell Company to send a technical team for discussing
its potential coverage of the two cities’ phone
services, but he added that the company has not
received any formal invitation regarding that. |

Asia Cell Company for cell phone services currently
operates in Sulaimaniyah, Kirkuk and some other
Iraqi provinces. It has not, however, been allowed
to expand its nets to Erbil and Duhok yet due to a
contract signed between Korek Telecom and the KRG in
Erbil not allowing any other mobile company to
operate in these two cities until the end of the
contract on August 11th, 2006.
