Kirkuk, Kurdistan-Iraq, -- Kirkuk’s
Administrative Council has opposed Prime Minister
Nouri Al Maliki’s decision to change the presidency
of the city’s Normalisation Panel, responsible for
the implementation of Article 140 of the Iraqi
Constitution, which outlines the procedure for the
normalization of Kirkuk.
"This decision is a wrong one and will not help in
the normalization of Kirkuk’s situation. Appointing
a Turkman as president of the Normalization Panel is
an obstacle to the stabilization of Kirkuk," a
member of Kirkuk's Administrative Council stated.
Prime Minister Maliki announced the replacement of
Hamid Majid Musa, secretary of the Iraqi Communist
Party, as president of the Normalization Nanel, with
prominent member of the Turkmani Front, Ali Mahdi,
in a press conference a few days ago.
The issue of Kirkuk’s normalization was a major
contributory factor to the poor relations between
Kurds and Iraq’s previous Prime Minister, Ibrahim Al
Jaafari. |
