Kurdistan-Iraq, -- Following the
completion of 98% of the process of re-writing the Iraqi Kurdistan
region constitution, the document will be put into a referendum in
the near future for ratification by the public, reported Radio Nawa,
Monday June 12.
In an exclusive statement to Radio Nawa, Tariq Jambaz the deputy
head of the committee responsible of re-writing the constitution
said that %98 of the document have been completed and the rest will
be finished in the near future and the document will then be put
into a public referendum for ratification.
“In the next couple of days, the 21st meeting of the committee will
be held at the building of the Kurdistan National Assembly (the
regional parliament) in Erbil to review and discuss how to go about
completing the rest of the document that is composed of 150 articles
still outstanding due to some technical problems.” Jambaz said in
his statement to Radio Nawa.
Jambaz further said the re-writing process has taken into
consideration the peculiarity of Kurdistan region compared to the
other parts of Iraq and that the document will be tailored to
reflect this peculiarity by having made use of the constitutions of
the other federal regions in the world and consultations with around
5000 of specialist and parties.
The Iraqi Kurdish region constitution had originally been scheduled
to be completed by last October at the same time the Iraqi
constitution was completed but it had to be delayed for another nine
months for some technical problems.
