University of Kurdistan Hawler seeks lecturers and senior lecturers
in Politics and International Relations, Sociology and Social Work,
Economics and Finance.
The University of Kurdistan Hawler is a new independent university
in the city of Erbil in the federal region of Kurdistan in Iraq,
funded by the Kurdish Regional Government. The UKH was established
to play a leading role in the reform and modernization of higher
education and in the reconstruction and development of a vibrant
civil society and culture in Kurdistan. The University will offer a
range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the broad area of
social, economic and political sciences to students from all over
Kurdistan. It will also house a number of research centres organized
and led by specialist staff in the university. The language of
teaching and research is English.
We are now looking to appoint members of
academic staff at Lecturer and Senior Lecturer levels to develop and
teach on the new degree courses in the following departments:
1. Department of Politics and International Relations
Senior Lecturer in International Relations (SL1/IR/06), to work
along side a small team of political scientists to develop an
International Relations unit in the department. The successful
candidate will be required to teach in the following areas:
International Relations Theory, International Organizations and
International Relations of the Middle East.
2. Department of Sociology and Social Work
Senior Lecturer in Sociology (SL1/SO/06), to head the Sociology
section in the department. The successful candidate will be required
to teach in the following areas: Sociological Theory (Classical and
Contemporary), Historical Sociology, Political Sociology, Social
Transformation and Change, Globalization.
Lecturer (A/B) in Sociology (L1/SO/06), to teach in some or all of
the following areas: Feminist Theory, Family and Gender, Ethnicity,
Nation and Nationalism, and New Social Movements.
Lecturer (A/B) in Sociology (L2/SO/06), to teach in some or all of
the following areas: Sociology of Education, Health and Work,
Urbanization and Urban Development, Social Marginalization and
Exclusion.
Senior Lecturer in Social Work (SL1/SW/06), to lead the Social Work
section of the department. We are keen to develop and teach courses
on the effects of war, trauma and genocide on social dislocation and
disability, at the level of community, family and individual, in the
context of the current reconstruction programmes in Kurdistan.
Lecturer (A/B) in Social Work (L1/SW/06), to specialize in War,
Trauma, Social Dislocation and Disability.
Lecturer (A/B) in Social Work (L2/SW/06), to specialize in Community
Care, Aging, Childcare and Poverty.
3. Department of Economics and Finance
Senior Lecturer in Economics (SL1/EF/06). Applications from any area
of Economics are invited.
Lecturer (A/B) in Economics and Finance (L1/EF/06). The successful
candidate will be required to teach in the areas of finance and/ or
financial economics.
Candidates for Senior Lectureships should have a PhD and a
substantial record of research and publication. Candidates for
Lectureships should have a PhD completed or near completion, and a
record of research and publication or evidence of research
potential. All applicants should have experience of teaching in
higher education. They should also be fluent in English.
All positions offer excellent remuneration (tax-free) and free
accommodation and other benefits on two-year renewable contracts.
