Drilling Begins for Second Oil Well in Kurdistan
(Xebat)
Drilling began (Sunday) in TaqTaq, south of Erbil,
on the second oil well (in Iraqi Kurdistan.) Bernard
Hard, chief manager of the project, discussed the
importance of the project for the region. Dilshad
Mohammad, head of the private projects commission,
said that by the end of 2006 three wells will be
drilled producing at least 20,000 barrels of oil
daily and their output will increase to 200,000
barrels daily in the future. The project is
implemented by Genic Energy, a Turkish Company, and
Adax Company, a Swiss company. The oil reserve in
TaqTaq is estimated to be 1.2 billion barrels.

Women Should Participate in Political
Decision-Making
(Baghdad)
Iraqi National List MP Safia al-Suhail said the
list's leader (Ayad Allawi) and other members
affirmed that women should participate in political
decision-making and that men and women should have
equal opportunities. She said the list will be
active in politics regardless of whether it
participates in the cabinet because its top priority
is to serve the people's interests. The slate
pledged to work to improve the security situation
and unemployment, as well as to fight terrorism
through economic investments It also promised to
providing public services to all Iraqis and help
them build state organisations and laws.

Foreign Ministry Denies Zeebari Targeted
(Al-Mada)
The foreign affairs ministry has denied that
minister Hoshiaar Zeebari escaped an assassination
attempt. The ministry announced in a press release
that three of Zeebari's bodyguards were killed by a
roadside bomb in Hemreen area, south of Baghdad. The
ministry affirmed that Zeebari was in Baghdad when
the incident took place. Separately, the ministry
announced that the Iranian foreign minister has
postponed his visit to Baghdad until the new
government is formed.

Smuggling Oil Products in Amara
(Al-Sabah)
An Amara police source said police patrols have
seized six tanks of oil that were to be smuggled out
of the province. A security source said the police
seized them at the province's main check point. Each
tanker contained 36,000 litters of fuel. The drivers
admitted after being interrogated that they intended
to smuggle them out of Iraq.

Muqtada Calls for Unity and Solidarity Among
Iraqis
(Al-Adala)
National Assembly members from the Supreme Council
for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq and its Badr
organisation visited the young Shia cleric, Muqtada
al-Sadr, at his home at Najaf. They discussed
currents events in Iraq as well as options for
ridding the country of the difficulties it has faced
and helping to stabilise the situation. Sadr
affirmed the importance of serving the people by
opposing blasphemers and Saddam's henchmen, as well
as working to have an independent Iraq by providing
public services. He emphasised that Iraqis have
unity and solidarity. He also said members of the
Sadrist movement, Badr organisation and the Supreme
Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (which
constitute some of the top Shia organisations) are
also unified because the enemy wants to ignite a
conflict and create a crisis to destabilise
security.
