Shaho Qadir stunned the
crowds by casting aside his crutches and artificial
legs to cross the finishing line walking on his
hands.
The Iraqi Kurdish refugee lost both his legs when
Saddam Hussein's forces attacked his village in 1988
in Kurdistan (Northern Iraq).
Now the 31-year-old is one of the disabled sport
world's fastest rising stars.
Amazingly he was supposed to undertake the
Manchester race as a wheelchair competitor, but
instead raced using his prosthetic legs after an
airport mix-up prevented him bringing his chair.
He said: "Although I can run with my legs and my
sticks, I was supposed to be in a wheelchair for
this race, but I wasn't able to get it on the plane
at Heathrow.
"I have not raced on foot very often, but I am
training for the New York marathon which I will run
so this will be good practise." |
