Erbil 'Hewler', Kurdistan-Iraq, April 30, ---
Finally, the winner of the third edition of South
Kurdistan (Kurdistan-Iraq) soccer league has been
decided in the final round of what has been an
absolute thrilling and an amazing title race between
the two South Kurdistani giants Hewler and Duhok.
Ahead of the final round, Hewler were two points
ahead of the runner-ups Duhok with each team playing
at home against the Peshmerga and Jihan.
At the famous stadium of Franso Hariri in the SK
capital of Hewler, a large number of fans gathered
in the stadium and cheered for their yellow side
throughout the whole 90 minutes.
The early stages of the game were not encouraging
for the home side and their fans already began to
feel the danger which their rivals have caused. The
Peshmerga side which had nothing to lose nor to gain
from this match, managed to open the score-line
during the first 20 minutes of the game.
Hewler did not give up and tried so hard to level up
the score and they did fortunately manage to achieve
that ahead of the final whistle of this thrilling
first half.
In the second half, the image have changed and
Hewler dominated over most of its periods and wasted
a lot of goal opportunities infront of their hungry
fans who were anticipating a victory especially when
they've heard that Duhok has won their match against
Jihan easily and with 7 goals to one!
But due to their attacking strategy, the home side
has been awarded a penalty kick and their talented
captain Rafid Badr El Deen managed to convert his
shot into the second goal of Hewler in this
wonderful night for the home fans who thanked god
that their players efforts did not come to knot.
The score remained until the final whistle which saw
Hewler winning the league for the second time in a
row in the league which 12 teams were participating
in it representing clubs from all over South
Kurdistan regions except for Sulaimaniyah teams who
are expected to join in next season.
It's worth mentioning that the winner of the first
edition was Ararat club or what is also called "Salahulldine"
while the second and this latest third edition title
went to Hewler.
