Erbil, Kurdistan-Iraq, -- Maj. Gen. Hwang
Jung-sun, commander of the Army’s 1st Division, will
become chief of South Korean troops stationed in
Iraq, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Tuesday.
Hwang replaces Maj. Gen. Jung Seung-jo, commander of
the troops, named "Zaytun" _ meaning olive in
Arabic.
The 3,277-strong contingent has conducted
humanitarian and rehabilitation work in Kurdistan
(the northern Iraqi) city of Erbil since August
2004.
The change-of-command ceremony will take place
Saturday April 6, at Camp Zaytun in the
Kurdish-controlled Iraqi Kurdistan town. Gen. Kim
Myung-lip, vice chief of the JCS, will officiate the
ceremony, a JCS spokesman said.
