Former Vanderbilt
basketball star Barry Booker plans to visit
Kurdistan-Iraq in July to direct a one-week
basketball camp at the Classical School of the
Medes.
The school is located in Sulaimaniyah in the
predominantly Kurdistan region of (northeastern
Iraq) (bordering Iran).
Booker will attend this camp under the leadership of
Servant Group International, a non-profit Christian
organization helping in Middle Eastern communities,
particularly with education and family.
“I was surprised to learn that there are Bible-based
schools delivering a Western education to the people
of Iraq,” Booker noted. “I was also surprised to
sense God calling me to participate in one of their
events.”
The trip is scheduled for July 16 – July 26 and will
cost approximately $4,200. Booker needs to raise
support quickly to cover the cost of this trip, so
if you are able to help him, your financial support
is greatly appreciated. |

Booker jokingly added, “At 39, this is also the last
time I plan to step on a court in a competitive way.
If you want to see me play one last time, there are
plenty of good seats available.”
If you care to help him raise the necessary funds,
please make checks payable to Servant Group
International (note Barry Booker’s name or Iraq
