President Barzani returns to Erbil after successful visit to Kuwait 15.5.2006

ERBIL, Kurdistan-Iraq, May 14 (KUNA) -- President of the Iraqi Province of Kurdistan, Massoud Barazani, returned to Erbil on Sunday after completing a successful two-day visit to Kuwait.

Barazani's visit to Kuwait came to boost relations between the two sides and to encourage Kuwaiti investments in the province as part of the reconstruction process.

Observers here viewed Barazani's visit as a proof of Kuwait's keenness on Iraqi unity and boosting relations with the country, adding that the welcoming of the Kurdish official came with the interest of better understanding the issues of Iraqi Kurds.

President of Iraq's Kurdistan Massoud Barzani said Saturday that the region's government will offer facilitaties to any Kuwaiti company wishing to invest in Kurdistan.

He was speaking at a news conference after meeting members of the Kuwaiti Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a meeting he described as fruitful while indicating that economic relations between Kurdistan and Kuwait will continue.

He added that invitations to discuss available investments between the chambers of commerce and industry in both Kuwait and Kurdistan were exchanged during the meeting.

Barzani, when asked by KUNA about the Kuwaiti investments in Kurdistan, said the meeting was the first step towards such investments.

The official said that the road between Kuwait and Kurdistan is not secure, therefore he suggested the air route is the safest way to launch investments.

Kurdistan stability and economic policies encourage Foreign and Arab investors to choose the region as the place for their economic projects.
