London, UK (KRG) – Member of the
British parliament Bob Spink on 8 May congratulated the Kurdistan
Regional Government on forming a unified cabinet.
Speaking in the House of Commons, the UK parliament’s lower chamber,
Dr. Spink said, "The Kurdistan Prime Minister Barzani today
presented the region’s new unified Government and Cabinet, who are
pledged to protect and respect all citizens of the region with
transparency and democratic accountability.
With so much bad news, we should be able to make time for good news
of such historic importance."
Dr. Spink visited the Kurdistan Region in September 2005 to speak at
the DBX Kurdistan international conference and exhibition.
During the visit he met President Masoud Barzani, members of the
Kurdistan National Assembly, bishops and members of the Assyrian
community, government officials, business people and students at
Erbil's Salahaddin University. |

He was impressed with the political and economic progress that the
Region has achieved and has since called for support and recognition
of the Region's positive role in Iraq. Dr. Spink had in earlier
parliamentary sessions highlighted the genocidal Anfal campaign and
commended the Kurds' proud tradition of political participation.
Dr. Spink’s statement in the House of Commons came a day after Prime
Minister Nechirvan Barzani named the ministers in his unified
cabinet and set out the KRG’s programme for political and economic
progress.
Prime Minister Barzani pledged to create a government that "cares
about all its citizens without discrimination, protects each and
everyone in the Kurdistan Region, provides equal opportunity for
all, and which respects the social, political and religious
diversity of the Region."
