Unified Kurdish
Cabinet Postponed
(Awene)
The unification of the Kurdish cabinet has been
unexpectedly postponed until the beginning of May.
The cabinet was expected to be formed on April 26.
Kurdistan Parliament speaker Adnan Mufti told Awene
that the decision was made because the parliament
will meet with Iraqi and foreign delegations (until
early May).
"It doesn't have anything to do with disputes
between KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) and PUK
(Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.)" (Iraqi Kurdistan,
which has a regional government separate from
Baghdad, will unify its two administrations that are
currently run by the Kurdistan Democratic Party in
Erbil and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in
Sulaimaniyah.)

Beiji Station Shut Down
(Al-Iraq al-Yoom)
A ministry of electricity source said power cuts
have increased because the Beiji station (the main
station supplying fuel in Iraq) shut down after its
staff was targeted by gunmen and their families had
to flee. He said there is a fuel shortage because a
gas pipeline feeding the station from Kirkuk was
damaged and 150 kilowatts of electricity were lost.
The Beiji pipeline feeds the two main power
stations, Doora (which supplies electricity for
Baghdad) and Taji (which supplies electricity for
the north and other regions.) He said rehabilitation
and maintenance of the power stations will begin in
preparation for summer.

Hakim Meets with Maliki, Atia and Abdul Mahdi
(Al-Adala)
United Iraqi Alliance leader Abdul Aziz al-Hakim met
Monday with vice-president Adil Abdul Mahdi,
(incoming) prime minister Jawad al-Maliki and deputy
parliament speaker Khalid al-Atia to discuss
political developments following the election of the
three (top Iraqi leaders.)
He emphasized the importance of creating a national
unity government (representing all of the major
political slates) and improving security and public
services. He visited Da'wa party (leader and
outgoing prime minister) Ibrahim al-Ja'fari. They
discussed the slates' efforts to form the new
government.
(Al-Adala is issued
daily by the Supreme Council for the Islamic
Revolution in Iraq.)
