Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan-Iraq - The
municipality of Chamchamal, south of Sulaimaniyah
city, decided on April 11 to distribute 1,703
house-land slots to the families and relatives of
the victims of the ill-famed Anfal campaign
conducted by the former Iraqi ruler against the
Kurds in Iraq in what Kurds see as a genocidal
attempt to exterminate them in
Iraq.
The decision by the municipality came in response to
a group of families of the victims of the notorious
campaign, which was to stage a rally as a sign of
disappointment with the local authorities for not
yet having been compensated for their losses with a
piece of land from the municipality.
“All the 1703 plots will be distributed to those
families by April 14, and none will be left without
a piece of land,” said Nawzad, the head of the city
municipality, to the PUK media.
