Iran: Declaration Due to 1st of May, the International Labor's day 24.4.2006

Progress in all the fields of struggle is guaranteed by a triumphant struggle for establishing workers’ class and mass formations.

Iranian working class is going to celebrate the First of May, after one another year of hardships and difficulties were made by glorious struggles and widespread strikes. During last year, wide and savage aggressions by the capitalists, owners of industries and their supporting regime on workers’ life and work continued to worsen the terribly insecure conditions of employment, earning of living and increased workers’ level of poverty and hardships. In confrontation with these wide attacks and terrible conditions, workers defended their own existence and demands by their continuous strikes and fights. The brave struggle and strike by the workers of Vahed company, the fifty-days-long strike by the Sanandaj textile workers, the workers’ strike in Qazvin, the strike by textile and Poli Acril workers in Esfahan and the strike by the workers of the Iran Khodrow company are only few examples of these struggles and confrontations by workers for achieving their demands.

Though the repression of workers’ protests has always made a part of the ruling regime’s policies and actions, but this time the fierce repression of the strikes and struggles of the Vahed company workers proved the climax of the regime’s obscenity and aggressiveness.

Iranian workers’ increasing struggles and strikes, especially in this year, and international support for their demands have provided more than any other time the tangible grounds for founding workers’ class and mass formations, which call for the necessity of establishing these formations by the activists in the worker movements, especially by the socialist’s activists. In the absence of the workers’ countrywide and class formations and united and organized struggles, the Islamic Regime can, by maneuvering and mobilizing its forces, repress the workers’ spreading struggles in different sectors.

In the core of struggles of this year against capitalism and for achieving its demands, the working class has brought up a generation of activists and leaders to fight on the frontline. Knowing the workers’ demands and having a clear perspective of the workers’ struggle for their class benefits, these pioneer workers have made their priority to strive for establishing mass and class formations. The formation of follow-up and coordinating committees for establishing workers’ formations, the establishment of committees in the factories and the strife for establishing the unemployed workers’ countrywide formations have been valuable steps towards these targets. Now it’s the time to start to found these working formations, have practical measures on the agenda and not let the working organizations to become mere sects that serve sectarian purposes

Workers’ experience in struggling and forming syndicates in Vahed Company once again confirms the fact that workers’ wider participation in the process of founding these class formations can make these formations bear fruit and practically impose them on the ruling regime and the capitalists.

Now and closing to the First of May, worker activists and pioneers are planning to hold a more coordinated and glorious celebration to show their international solidarity with the struggles of the working class and against capitalism. While emphasizing on Iranian workers’ most crucial demands, Mansour Osanlo and other workers’ release from prison and demanding immediate and unconditional annulment of the imprisonment sentences issued against the arrestees of the First of May in 2004 in Qazvin, it’s necessary to direct the attention of more and more of the working masses at the importance and the necessity of organizing their forces and struggling to found the workers’ class formations. Triumph and success on this front guarantees the progress on the other fronts of their struggle.

It’s only an organized working class that can execute the international verdict of recognizing the First of May as workers’ international day, as a formal holiday and workers’ absolute freedom in holding this day’s celebrations the way they want.

At the international marsh, on the First of May, Iranian workers condemn the disputes and confrontations of the Islamic Regime with the US-led west and Israel over the regime’s nuclear case which is nothing but an internal dispute among capitalists themselves. Knowing the backward nature of the policies of both sides of the dispute and its consequences, Iranian workers play their true role on the frontline of the struggle against the Islamic Republic as well as on the frontline of the international struggle against war and imperialistic militarism.

Long Live the First of May Workers’ International Solidarity Day
