A
delegation of senior education specialists from the
Iraqi Kurdistan are currently in the UK to discuss
training planning and development opportunities.
According to UK Trade & Investment (UKTI),
which is sponsoring the week-long visit that started
Sunday, the delegation includes the heads of three
universities and of colleges and schools from across
the region.
Other members are specialists in regional education
provision, the teaching of English, and in creating
new education projects - including a new medical
university - in both the public and private sectors.
UK Trade Minister Ian Pearson said that the
delegation visit represented an "exciting
opportunity for UK education companies and
institutions to demonstrate their capabilities on a
world stage." "Many have well-established
international reputations and all can make a real
contribution to the rebuilding of the education
system in the Kurdistan region of Iraq at all
levels," Pearson said.
Special envoy for education in Kurdistan, Khaled
Salih, who is leading the delegation said that he
would like to thank UKTI and the
Kurdistan Development Corporation for organising
this visit.
"The Kurdistan Regional Government is committed to
improving people's education and skills through
better teacher training, better curricula and
materials, and links with schools and universities
in other countries," Salih said.
The visit includes visits to schools, universities,
and colleges in London, Oxford in southern England
and Exeter in the south-west to talk to British
educationists, publishers, equipment, and software
suppliers about their needs.
UKTI is the lead government organisation that
provides support for British companies looking to
develop international business and overseas
companies wishing to invest in the UK.
