Salahaddin, Kurdistan-Iraq,
20 April - Massoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region,
welcomed the Russian government’s enquiries into opening a consulate
in Erbil, Kurdistan’s capital.
Mr Barzani met Sergey Kirchenko, Russia’s special envoy to Iraq, and
Vladimir Chamov, Russia’s ambassador to Iraq at his office in
Salahaddin.
Mr Kirchenko said that the purpose of his visit was to look into the
possibility of opening a Russian consulate in Erbil, which would
help to strengthen relations between the KRG and the Russian
Federation and the consulates would be an added value between the
governments of Kurdistan and Russia.
Mr Kirchenko stressed that President Putin supports this
new policy of taking relations with the KRG to a new level. |
