ANKARA, Turkey 26
March, -- Turkish troops killed 14 Kurdish
guerrillas in a clash in southeastern Turkey
(Kurdistan-Turkey), local military authorities said
Saturday.
The fighting occurred near the hamlet of Senyayla in
the province of Mus on Friday and Saturday,
authorities said. Turkish soldiers found the bodies
of 14 guerrillas from the Kurdistan Workers Party on
Saturday, officials said.
Meanwhile, a bomb blast at a restaurant in the
southeastern city of Tunceli injured a waitress,
authorities said. There was no claim of
responsibility but the suspicion fell on Kurdish
guerrillas in the area, they said.
Hours later, another bomb went off in a garbage can
in the nearby city of Elazig, shattering windows of
some businesses, police said.
Tensions have been running high in the
Kurdish-dominated southeast, where autonomy-seeking
Kurdish guerrillas have escalated attacks recently.
The fight for autonomy has claimed the lives of more
than 37,000 people since 1984. The PKK is considered
a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United
States and the European Union.
