Central government
cuts Kurdish region’s budget
(Kurdistani Nwe)
Dilshad Osman, the Kurdish region's deputy finance
minister, has told the Kurdistani Nwe newspaper that
the Iraqi finance ministry has cut 485 million US
dollars from Kurdistan’s budget. He said the cut was
discovered after a review of the 2006 budget. "We
informed Baghdad about this issue in January,” Osman
said, adding that no answer had been received so far
and warning that if the matter remained unresolved,
legal proceedings would be instituted because
"because we consider it unfair".

Barzani says Kurds have strategic link with UIA
(Al-Mada)
Kurdish president Masood Barzani has denied that the
Kurdistan Alliance has any deep disagreement with
the United Iraqi Alliance, UIA, about the formation
of an Iraqi government. In a declaration issued by
his office in Erbil, Barzani said the historic
relationship between the Kurdistan Alliance and the
UIA is a deep and strategic one. Kurds never take
one side at the expense of others, but they do unite
with those who meet their expectations on the basis
of common interest, he said. Barzani expressed hope
that the Kurdistan Alliance, the UIA, and other
blocs would reach acceptable solutions through
dialogue and reconciliation.

Salam al-Maliki to represent Sadrists in Shia
alliance
(Al-Sabah al-Jadeed)
The Sadrist bloc in the United Iraqi Alliance, UIA,
has named transport minister Salam al-Maliki as the
head of its parliamentary faction. Lawmaker Kusai
al-Suhail of the UIA said that al-Maliki would play
a big part in representing the views of the Sadrists,
and this should help narrow the gap between the
political parties in parliament, which holds its
first session next week. The Sadrist movement will
support all forces that work in the interests of
Iraq, he added.

No Islamic or Arab Troops to Iraq
(Al-Adala)
Foreign minister Hooshiar Zeebari denied that Iraq
has asked the Arab foreign ministers’ council, which
has been meeting at Arab League headquarters, to
send Islamic or Arab troops to Iraq. Zeebari added
that there are still some disagreements about the
formation of a new Iraqi government.

Revolution in Iraq.)
Sunni endowment meets Sadrists
(Al-Sabah)
The Sunni endowment and the Sadrist movement have
urged the Iraqi people to display unity and
solidarity, and called for an end to intimidation of
families all over the country. After a meeting
between Ahmed Abdul Ghafoor al-Samarrai and some
leading members of the Sadrist movement, the Sunni
endowment issued a declaration saying Iraq is
enduring a great conspiracy designed to ignite
conflict between the citizens of a united nation.
The declaration - signed by groups of Sunnis and
Shias clerics- warned that bloodletting is a loss
for Iraqis and a victory for our enemies, and urged
people to reject any kind of segregation and
sectarianism. The declaration said Sunnis should
protect Shias living in their communities and Shias
should protect the Sunnis in theirs.

independent publicly owned newspaper.)
