PUK-official Schno Shex Latif recently promised Halabja to invest more in the troubled region. She said 463,577 million dollar will be invested in Halabja. Also 8000 poor families will receive a monthly payment. This month violent protests erupted against corruption and poverty in the region in Halabja.

Awene (Kurdish Newspaper issued in Kurdistan-Iraq) recently suggested that PUK in the breach of the Iraqi constitution which they had approved. According to Awena four NGO’s reported that most of the detained protestors were subjected to physical and physiological torture in the PUK detention centre.

Few thousand protestors gathered on the 18th anniversary of Saddam Hussein's chemical attack on the town and destroyed the Halabja Monument, the symbol of victims of Halabja.

The PUK security fired live ammunition into the air, killing one person and wounding at least eleven, in a bid to stop the mayhem by protesters. We will see next year Newroz, if South-Kurdistan (Kurdistan-Iraq) will overcome their problems or will need a new Kawa.
