Clashes between protesters and security forces in Piranshahr

Hundreds of protesters arrested, dozen injured

Several thousands of Kurdish people in the city of Piranshahr (Iranian Kurdistan) protested against the killing of Fayegh Rajabi a Kurdish toiler by security forces of Iran.

Thousands of Kurdish people in the city of Piranshahr in West Azerbayjan province of Iranian Kurdistan protested the killing a Kurdish toiler by security forces on Saturday, March 11 2006. Security forces opened fire to prevent the spread of the demonstration, which resulted in the injury of dozens of protesters.

According to reliable news received from the city, the conditions of some of the injured that have hidden themselves from the security forces are critical; furthermore, over 200 people are arrested by the security forces.

Angry protesters put on fire several government vehicles and stoned government buildings. The Ansar-al Mojahed bank of government was set on fire by the angry protesters.

Since Saturday, Piranshahr is in under Marshal Law. Since July 2005 over 50 of Iranian Kurd have been killed by the brutal special forces during numerous demonstrations in the Kurdish cities of Iran.

So far, approximately two thousand people are arrested and over 500 people are injured. The security forces killed at least 10 Kurdish demonstrators in the city of Maku on February 15th 2006.

The ongoing human rights violation in Iranian Kurdistan is not sporadic nor is it as a result of persistence of some officers, but it is the result of systematic and programmed policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran against Kurdish people and the people of Iran in general.

PDKI urges the International community, EU, United States and members of Security Council to pay attention to the situation of Human rights in Iranian Kurdistan and the ongoing economical, political and military aggression against Kurdish people in Iran. Condemning the violation of basic human rights by the Iranian regime is a least expectation of Kurdish people from International community.
