The
Iraqi-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry in
Erbil is to organise its second annual investment
conference on 27th April.
The conference, scheduled for three days, is aimed
at attracting foreign investors to the Kurdistan
region. It will be attended by representatives from
donor countries that have pledged grants to Iraq and
are already taking part in the process of rebuilding
Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in particular.
Those who will attend represent different trade
associations and companies from both the private and
government sectors, include a number of Jordanian
firms.
Faris al-Muslih, director of the Iraqi-American
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told the
London-based Elaph internet news agency on 23rd
March that the aim of the conference is to introduce
investment opportunities to Iraq and the Kurdistan
Region.
The meeting will also help potential investors to
meet government officials and discuss new investment
laws in the Kurdistan Region. Another aim is to
influence change in the views regarding
international banks establishing new industrial
zones.
Erbil, the Kurdistan Region's capital, hosted the
first international exhibition for foreign companies
in September 2005. More than 350 companies
participated, including many local and regional
firms. Participants exhibited their products and
discussed the reconstruction process in the
Kurdistan Region in the last few years as well as
their plans for the future.
