Democracy and Freedom of Speech in Kurdistan 3.3.2006
By Dana Kadir, Australia- Sydney

I believe that everyone has a right to express him/herself without any distinction. The freedom of belief and expression is nothing to do with nationality, religion, colour, sex or race. In addition, everyone can criticise any political parties, governments or any organisation, but the criticism should be within a frame work of the democracy and the freedom of speech without damaging a reputation of any particular nation or a political party. Criticism must be constructive and make the situation to progress and develop towards better outcomes and achievements and have legitimate goal or to serve human rights.
An article was published on the 29th January 2006 at www.dengekan. com, by the Australian Campaign Committee to free Dr. Kamal Qadir. The article was published under this name, why Mustafa Khalil supports the ruler? The article continued and criticised the Kurdish political parties in South Kurdistan for creating a bad situation for the last 14 years.

I can say to that committee, a situation like that did not just happen in Kurdistan, but it happened everywhere else in the world, for instant in Europe in the past between Western Germany and Eastern Germany and each country established an independent state.

It is true that South Kurdistan divided into two Regional Governments. It is very obvious that such a division is a bad outcome of our neighbouring countries, like enemies of peace and democracy in Kurdistan and generally in the Middle East. For example, our neighbouring countries have created many terrorist groups and individuals in order to destroy our Regional Governments and even to occupy our minds by exporting their own religion under the manner of Islam. Shekh Zana’s terrorist group is a very clear example in Erbil the capital city of Kurdistan.

There were also many other terrorist groups which were discovered in Kerkuk, Sulaimaniy and Musil. I believe the author of the article has forgotten or ignored some of the realities just mentioned. I believe these types of campaigns are the bad outcomes of Sadam’s regime not the Regional Governments. Puk and KDP have been working very hard for many decades despite of everything. They have been fighting and struggling within and outside Kurdistan in order to protect the Kurdish nation. Our nation is still sacrificing in order to get rid of the harshness and injustice against our nation in the Middle East by our neighbouring tyrants.

Kurdistan was not liberated just in one second, since the revolution started in south Kurdistan over 1 million Kurds were sacrificed.

It is true that Mustafa Khalil is a very faithful person towards his nation, and he has been working very hard for his people. Mustafa Kahlil is an excellent example that never gives up on the benefit of his nation to anything else. Since his arrival in Australia, he has been working in different Kurdish Associations in order to achieve the rights of his nation. He participated in many demonstrations against the occupiers in Kurdistan.

He worked in Australian Kurdish Association as president and secretary from 1982-1985. In addition, he worked from 1986-1992 in 2RDIFM and 2RSR-FM. He also worked as president from 1990-1995 for the Kurdish Association of Sydney and later on changed to Kurdish Association of NSW and he resigned in 1995. Now Mustafa Khalil is running the Kurdish radio program in FM 2000, from 1992 until now.

Kurdistan has the market that privatized. They have much private ownership in the economy, more than many countries in the Middle East which have democracy too.

Corruption has so frequently triumphed in our world that the governments need to propose specific plans of action at further discussions and meetings. For example the citizens of Chechnya never saw any reconstruction; electricity, water, and heating fuel were never restored, and housing destroyed or damaged during the war was never reconstructed. Nowhere has the level of corruption been more scandalous.

For example in 1995, troops forced 2 electricity substances to restore power to nuclear submarine base in northern Kola Peninsula, where electricity had been cut off because of unpaid bills. In June 2000 also the power supply of the huge underground command centre of the Strategic Missile Forces west of Moscow was also cut off. In addition to that, 110,000 soldiers and 160,000 discharged servicemen were without housing.

Even Russia started selling the most advanced weapons to the Middle East, in order to bring more money and create jobs in Russia.

Even in 1998, Russian Missile Technology and nuclear Reaction transferred to Iran. Even in June 1999 North Korea and China continued to supply the largest amount of ballistic missile related good, technology, and expertise to Iran and other tyrant countries. Why this committee keeps quiet and does not demonstrate against the above communist countries, which directly they participate in corruption and violence by exporting their Mass Destruction products. Vladimir’s Government on 1st May 2000, 32% of Russia’s arms exports sold to Iran, Algera. Russia also revitalised exports to dormant countries such as, Libya, Syria and Turkey and also signed technical collaboration deals as well.

I hope for the future, the march of freedom and democracy which will leave Marxism-Leninism on the ash heap of history as it has left other tyrannies which stifle the freedom and muzzle the self expression of the Kurdish people.
