The Military Base in the Amanos Mountain Entered
Is Being Wrapped Up
HATAY, (DIHA) -
the works for the base being established in the
Amanos Mountain, between Kisecik village and Arsuz
town, Hatay, and being claimed as a US base, has
stopped due to the winter's tough weather
conditions. After being exposed to the media, it is
noticed that the base doesn't show much activity.
Being exposed to the public through the media during
the latest weeks, the giant facility, claimed to be
an American base in the Amanos Mountains, is now
abandoned due to the tough weather conditions and
the matter is being wrapped up. The construction was
started in 1998 and finished in the summer of 2004.
Due to its height, 1770 m above the sea level, the
facility came to the state of dullness because of
the harsh weather conditions.
'A big number of military jeeps were coming and
going'
Fevzi Ozenci, from Kisecik village: "Earlier, a big
number of military jeeps were coming from and going
towards the base." "Foreign people were going. But
lately, nobody is coming or going. Because the
facility is on a very high mountain, it's impossible
to live there in such weather conditions. The snow
is half a meter high." Added Mr. Ozenci.
Another resident who asked not to mention his name,
said: "After the matter was mentioned in the media,
a foreign car came down the mountain. No one was
seen since."
Mr. Cay of CHP: We won't drop the matter
The first Parliamentarian to talk about the base, to
ask for an answer from the Prime Minister, the CHP
Party's Mr. Fuat Cay is determined to not drop the
matter.
Stressing that the questions concerning the base are
still left unanswered, he said:
"We are curious to know the goal of establishing the
base near Kisecik Village. This base is a process of
the Big Middle East Project and is being concealed
from the local authorities and the public.
What type of works is going on there? For whom and
for which country? We are curious about it? Until we
get answers to these questions, we'll follow up the
matter." Said Mr. Cay.
