Turkish Police alleged to have beaten 11 year old Kurdish boy 24.2.2006

Medical reports confirm boy was beaten, family files complaint

Turkey, Feb 24, Medical reports have confirmed allegations that an 11-year-old boy was tortured by police in Istanbul's Bagcilar district, reported daily Radikal yesterday.

According to the report, the boy and his friends were detained for a day after a demonstration in Bagcilar on Feb. 15 to support the rebel Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan on charges of being involved in the group's separatist acts.

The boy claimed that he was beaten with sticks, punched and kicked in a dark room and that his head was banged against a wall. He was kept in custody for a day and released after being questioned by the public prosecutor’s office.

Medical reports have confirmed that he suffered injuries to the head, lips and teeth and that he'd been beaten.

The boy’s family went to the Foundation for Legal and Social Studies (TOHAV) on Feb. 18 and they then filed a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office against the policemen that allegedly beat the boy.
