Kurdistan Alliance
Sets Conditions
(Baghdad)
The Kurdistan Alliance has said it will not
participate in the new government unless the four
largest slates (including the Iraqi National List)
also participate. Kurdistan Alliance member Mahmood
Osman said the alliance is focusing on a vivid
political program that works in the interest of the
Iraqi people. He said the program does not
marginalise any political entity, as occurred in the
previous government and during the (drafting of the)
constitution. He noted that (elected officials are)
pressed for time in forming the new government and
that Iraqis are suffering from many problems that
need to be solved quickly.

Parliament Bloc Bigger than Coalition
(Azzaman)
Fadhila party secretary-general Nademm al-Jabiri
said that his party will be out of the circle that
supports (prime minister Ibrahim) al-Jafaari’s
government if it does not put into practice
Fadhila's "national rescue project." The agenda
concentrates on eradicating sectarianism, improving
security and services and allowing all political
entities to participate in politics. He hinted at
the possibility of forming a parliamentary coalition
larger than (Ja'afari's United Iraqi Alliance, of
which Fadhila is a member) but did not name it. He
said that it could win two-thirds of parliamentary
votes that are required for the prime minister's
post, as stated in the constitution.

(Call For) Danish Troops to Withdraw
(Al-Mashriq)
The Basra provincial council issued a declaration on
February 14 calling for Danish troops in Basra to
withdraw if their government does not apologise for
the cartoons that abused Prophet Muhammed (peace be
upon him.) The declaration affirmed that opposition
to British forces would continue because the British
have not released Iraqi detainees. It also condemned
the British for the brutal act published in the
global media that showed British soldiers violently
beating young Iraqis. The declaration ordered Basra
residents to cut associations with British and
Danish forces until further notice.

Stability of Oil Product Prices
(Al-Mada)
In his first press conference after being nominating
for a second term, prime minister Ibrahim al-Ja'afari
said the government does not intend to raise the
prices of oil products, particularly kerosene. The
ministerial council has approved allocating 50
million dollars for the Iraqi Red Crescent to assist
Iraqis, and 36 million dollars to eradicate bird
flu. He laid out his agenda for the next government,
which includes rebuilding the country, improving
services and security, eradicating unemployment and
including all political blocs in the next government
based on election results.

Arts.)
