Kirkuk Issue
(Al-Taakhi)
United Iraqi Alliance member Salam al-Maliki said
the coalition is obliged to put into effect Article
58 as is stated in the constitution. Article 58
deals with resolving the issue of Kirkuk. He added
that negotiations are underway with the Kurdistan
Alliance regarding the issue, and that they are
discussing putting together a joint political
platform. In the meantime, the coalition held
negotiations with the Iraqi Accord Front, (a Sunni
Arab opposition bloc.) Maliki said the government
would be formed within one month. Maliki maintained
that the coalition supports establishing federalism
in the south, which will be different from that of
the Kurdish (federal region in northern Iraq.)

Kurds ask for Budget
(Kurdistani Nwe)
The ministers of health of the two Kurdish
administrations met in Erbil with Rozh Nuri Shawais,
Iraqi deputy prime minister, who heads a team
confronting the bird flu virus. The ministers talked
about steps that have been taken to control the
disease. They also submitted a list of demands,
including a specific budget for Kurdistan to control
the disease and compensate people (whose birds were
culled in an attempt to prevent a massive outbreak
of the disease.)

De-Ba'athification Committee Rejects Talabani's
Petition (Al-Bayyna)
The supreme national committee for de-Ba'athification
has rejected president Jalal Talabani's request that
the committee (keep off its list) candidates who won
the elections (and who are being kept out of office
because they had Ba'athist ties.) In a letter sent
to Talabani, the committee affirmed that (several
candidates) were former members of the dissolved
Ba'ath party and former intelligence officers who
worked against the Iraqi opposition (during the
former regime of Saddam Hussein.) The candidates
include: Adnan al-Janabi, Rasim al-Awadi, Saad Asim
al-Janabi and Abdul Latif al-Badri. It is worth
mentioning that the committee has issued a list of
158 candidates who cannot become lawmakers
regardless of whether they won or lost in the
elections.

Big Slates Form the New Government
(Al-Adala)
United Iraqi Alliance member Sami al-Askeri said the
coalition and the Kurdistan Alliance began official
talks to form the new Iraqi government and insisted
that (a member of) the slate must hold the interior
ministry's post. He added that the coalition has
some criteria regarding the negotiations, including
keeping a commitment to the constitution and a clear
stance against terrorism. He clarified that the
ministerial posts would be distributed based on the
election results. The coalition did not object to
the Iraqi National List participating in politics if
it worked with the government's agenda, he added.
(Al-Adala is
issued daily by the Supreme Council of the Islamic
Revolution in Iraq.)
