(Kurdistani Nwe)
The Kurdistan parliament has condemned the
publication of cartoons (by a Danish newspaper that
were deemed insulting to the Prophet Muhammed.)
"Although the Kurdistan parliament supports freedom
of speech and expression, we strongly condemn the
irresponsible stance of the Danish newspaper,
Jyllands-Posten, which by publishing the cartoons
humiliated the Prophet Muhamad and Islam," according
to a statement issued by the parliament. The

newspaper and its publishers.

Defence and Interior Ministries Should Have
Technocrat
(Al-Sabah al-Jadeed)
The Kurdistan Alliance and other lists believed that
the ministries of defence and the interior should be
run by technocrats or parties that do not have
private militias, Kurdistan Alliance member Mahmood
Osman said. He noted that the ministries are
directly connected to public security. Osman
emphasized the importance of coordination between
the two ministries. He laid responsibility for the

National Unity Top Priority
(Al-Bayan)
Prime minister Ibrahim al-Ja'afari said that all
religious groups in the new Iraq are guaranteed the
right to practice their religious traditions. He
maintained that national unity and respect for
mankind are top priorities. Receiving the heads of
the Sunni and Shia endowments and other
representatives of religious groups, Ja'sfari
affirmed that Ashuraa (the fasting holiday honouring
Imam al-Hussein) is not an Islamic or Shia occasion
but an occasion of all religions because Hussein was
the martyr of humanity, justice and freedom that all
mankind strives for. He urged the religious leaders
to educate people regarding beginning reconciliation
(in Iraq) and loving (Iraqi) culture. He said this
would help solidify national unity and avoid
(repeating) past negative experiences.

issued four times weekly by the Islamic Dawa Party,
chaired by Iraqi prime minister Ibrahim al-Ja'afari.)
