Shropshire, UK,
Feb 8, - A failed asylum seeker was stabbed
nine times, kicked, stamped and spat on by a gang of
men in a racially motivated assault outside a
Telford night club, a court heard.
Ali Rebwar Ahmed, a 23-year-old Iraqi Kurd, was left
bleeding heavily from his wounds near the Athena
club. At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday Judge
Robin Onions said it was “as close to a murder as it
possibly could be”.
Ahmed and two fellow Kurds had clashed with a group
of white men who had started the violence outside
the club. The Kurds had armed themselves with iron
bars.
Ahmed, of Vicarage Road, All Saints, Wolverhampton,
had admitted a charge of violent disorder in
connection with the fighting in 2004 in which he
almost died.
Judge Onions said he was able to suspend a one-year
prison sentence for two years because of Ahmed’s
near fatal injuries.
