Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan-Iraq, Feb 14, - Red
roses and romantic gifts are very much in demand in
Kurdish Sulaimaniyah as young people shop for
Valentine Day.
Gift shops in the Kurdistani (northern Iraqi)
province enjoy brisk sales one day ahead of the
occasion that falls on February 14.
“All the gifts sold for that day are symbols of
love,” a shopkeeper said.
For Mizan Ali, 23, this will be his first Valentine
Day while he is in love. He is impatiently waiting
for tomorrow to present his sweetheart with a red
rose.
“I will even try to wear something red.” Ali said.
Red clothes are common on Valentine Day.
Young men and women in Sulaimaniyah universities,
who enjoy a greater degree of freedom, tend to wear
red outfits for the day.
“I like this day because the words ‘I love you’ were
said to me on it,” said Hana, a Kurdish young woman
of 24.
